GUIGUINTO, Bulacan—Officials of Barangay Tuktukan here shut down the open dump in their village after Mayor Ambrosio Cruz and other town officials warned that they may be fined for violating environmental laws.
The engineer Sudan Centeno, the municipal environment and natural resources officer, told The Manila Times that the barangay officials shut down the dump after Lormelyn Claudio, the director of the Environmental Management Bureau for Central Luzon, warned that fines could run to P500,000.
