SEEDING Filipino chess players to major international tournaments such as the World Chess Olympiad would be detrimental to the development of the sport in the country and diminishes the hopes of other players to compete for the Philippines overseas.
This was the response of Nelson Mariano, the country’s latest Grandmaster, yesterday to plans by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines to seed International Master Mark Paragua to the 36th Chess Olympiad opening in Majorca, Spain on October 13.
