GMA, ABS-CBN top winners in first staging of Golden Screen Entertainment Awards

ALTHOUGH television station ABC 5 had crowed about its three nominations in the first Golden Screen Entertainment Awards for TV, clearly the event last Saturday night that was organized by the new showbiz writers’ group, Entertainment Press Society (Enpress), was a battle between rival networks, ABS-CBN 2 and GMA 7.

And the clear winner was GMA 7. This, according to show-biz observers, was but expected—because Enpress was formed last year shortly after its members broke away from the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) to protest what they felt was a mysterious and unfair triumph of ABS-CBN 2 over GMA 7 when the PMPC gave away its Star Awards For TV.
