Tis that time of year once again when we believe in ourselves the most. That we can finally put to use our longtime lifetime gym membership, quit the smokes, smother on sunblock every day, cut the fat off our diets, or look like a goddess all new year round. Yes, we’ve all made our resolutions yet again—and yet again, I’m sure most of our family, friends and foes have placed their bets that we won’t get to keep them.

According to expert resolution makers (the ones who get to gloat every year-end) the reason why most mortals like us fail miserably at keeping our New Year pledges is because none of our pledges are ever realistic. Stuff like dropping the bottle when you own a liquor store or getting to bed by midnight when you work at a call center. . . . If you ask me, who are they to say what’s realistic and what’s not? I think anyone can do anything—impossible, as it may seem—as long as a support system is in place. Like a designated individual to hit you on the head with the bottle of vodka the minute you take its cap off, or a dependable co-call center worker who’d cover for you at the stroke of midnight. Who’s to say they won’t work?
