MOST Americans are saying that the modernization of the Roman Catholic Church is the priority of the next pope, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll.
The survey strikes a chord in the Philippines. Many Filipinos, while acknowledging the greatness of Pope John Paul II, say he left a ministry whose rules, traditions and practices were written in stone. Conservatism and traditionalism have crowned his 26-year-old papacy.
