SUPPORT snowballed on Wednesday for Rep. Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr. to become the next president of the troubled National Chess Federation of the Philippines after 44 of the country’s top players started a signature campaign for the lawmaker to replace Go Teng Kok, who has said he will not seek reelection.

Grandmasters Mark Paragua and Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. led the players in signing the petition in support for Pichay, who represents the First District of Surigao del Sur.
