Broadcaster gunned down in Malabon


A 45-YEAR-old radio broadcaster was gunned down on Thursday morning by yet to be identified gunmen near her residence in Malabon City.
Authorities identified the killed radio anchor, who was declared dead on arrival after being rushed at Valenzuela General Hospital as Marlina Flores Sumera, of the radio station dzME and a resident of Silonoan Street in Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was on her way to the office at about 9 a.m. in Caloocan City when one of the two unidentified suspects shot her at close range.
Reports quoting witnesses that the suspects walked away from the scene after making sure that the victim was fatally wounded.
Investigators are still conducting investigation on to identify the motive of the suspects and are not discounting the possibility that the victim’s killing was work-related.
Ed Sarto, Sumera’s co-anchor in their program Arangkada 1530 sa dzME, said that the killing was possibly over a land dispute, as her colleague was doing public service on the said issue in Malabon City.
Besides being a broadcaster, Sumera is their neighborhood association president.
