Baguio’s top pusher gets life sentence


BAGUIO CITY: A drug court here sentenced to life imprisonment a notorious drug pusher in the Cordillera region.

Gilbert Balancio Mendoza alias “Gilbong”, 39, a driver and cellphone technician was found guilty of unlawful sale of dangerous drugs. He was consequently meted life imprisonment and a fine of three million pesos by the regional trial court branch 61 in this city.

RTC branch 61 judge Antonio Reyes said Mendoza is also a member of a dreaded local drug group in the Cordillera Region.

Mendoza was nabbed in a buy-bust operation on May 24, 2010 near his residence, where he sold a sachet of shabu to a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operative.

Mendoza, ranked 8th in Baguio City’s target list of drug personalities had been apprehended with 1.8 grams of shabu in December 2004.
