House members skirt truth-telling game

The unprecedented impeachment trial of the Philippine Chief Justice all started with the truth—or lack of it.

When the Supreme Court, then headed by chief justice Renato Corona, declared that the Aquino administration’s Truth Commission unconstitutional, President Benigno Aquino 3rd and his allies in the House of Representatives didn’t take this sitting down. The Truth Commission was meant to probe into the corruption of the administration of former president and now Rep. Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga province—the President who appointed Corona as chief of the High Court.
