Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So is now a member of the US Chess Federation (USCF).
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has already confirmed the transfer of So from the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) to the USCF through FIDE Titles/Transfers officer Irina Adyanova.
The information was sent by Adyanova to the NCFP.
“Please be informed that the transfer of Wesley, So id#5202213 from PHI to USA has been made,” said Adyanova in the letter.
On July 8, USCF FIDE Association Walter Brown wrote a letter to Adyanova to inform the FIDE regarding So’s decision to transfer.
“Mr. Wesley So wishes to transfer from the Philippines Chess Federation to the USA Chess Federation. Attached will be the transfer page, passport photo and information, and a letter from Webster University stating that he has been a student at Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri USA since August 2012. Please let us know if any more information is needed,” the letter stated.
The Manila Times tried to contact NCFP President Prospero Pichay for comments but could not be reached.
So recently ruled the 2014 Millionaire Chess Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is set to compete in the prestigious 2015 Tata Steel tournament scheduled in January in the Netherlands where he will represent the US.
The 20-year old So is also slated to take part in the 2014 Pan Am Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship on December 27 to 30.
He will be spearheading the Webster University (WU) Team A along with Robson, Le, GM Georg Meier and compatriot FIDE Master Jake Banawa.
