Kluber fans 18 to lift Indians

CLEVELAND: Cleveland pitcher Corey Kluber shook off early-season doldrums with a vengeance on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), striking out 18 to lead the Indians to a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Kluber’s 18 strikeouts matched the Cleveland club record for a nine-inning game set by Indians legend Bob Feller. Hall of Famer Feller struck out 18 Detroit Tigers on October 2, 1938. Kluber had a chance to break the Major League Baseball mark of 20 strikeouts, shared by Roger Clemens and Kerry Wood, but was pulled before the ninth inning after throwing 113 pitches.
