Opposite hitter Jovelyn Gonzaga of Philippine Army Lady Troopers has been named as the women’s volleyball team captain for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games scheduled next month in Singapore.

National team head coach Roger Gorayeb personally picked the 23-year-old Gonzaga to lead the team both inside and outside the court citing the latter’s maturity and profound experience in international competitions.

The Central Philippine University standout has represented the country in the beach volleyball competition of previous international tournaments including the Southeast Asian Games and the World University Games.

She was a former Season and Finals Most Valuable Player in the Shakey’s V-League and bagged several Best Attacker and Best Opposite Spiker awards.

Joining Gonzaga in the team are flag bearer Alyssa Valdez, Aby Marano, Bea De Leon, Jia Morado, Rhea Dimaculangan, Denden Lazaro, Maika Ortiz, Grethcel Soltones, Rachel Ann Daquis, Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat.

The team is scheduled to leave on June 4.

The opening ceremonies of the biennial meet will be on June 5 at the newly built Singapore National Stadium while the volleyball competitions will begin on June 10.
