QC closes 2 Balintawak markets

Closure orders were served to two privately-owned markets in Balintawak for multiple violations of national and local laws and regulations pertinent to market operations. Signed by Mayor Herbert Bautista, the order was served by market development and administration department (MDAD) head Noel Soliven to Cloverleaf and Riverview 2 markets, but owners refused to receive. Both markets, including MC market, were earlier given cease and desist order until necessary compliance was made. Of the three, only MC market has voluntarily ceased from further operating. The city has offered alternative vending sites for legally-operating vendors affected by the closure. Since last September MDAD has recommended closure of privately-owned markets in Balintawak for operating without documents for legitimate market operations. Only six of the nine private markets have partially complied – the North Diversion market, Pilsons market, MGP market, Edsan market, Juliana market and Riverview 1 market.
