US government farm subsidies are contributing to the growing prevalence of obesity because they primarily go to crops processed into foods linked to obesity and other health problems rather than to vegetables and other healthier crops, former UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development Jomo Kwame Sundaram contends in the following analysis for Inter Press Service (IPS).
