A JOURNALIST based in Mindanao was killed by an unknown assailant in Davao del Norte on Thursday noon, according to police.

Dennis Wilfredo Denora, a SunStar reporter and publisher of community paper Trends and Times, died on the spot in front of Century Bank in Barangay New Pandan, in Panabo City, Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz of the Southern Mindanao Police Office, said.

Based on initial investigation, Denora was on the front seat of his white Hyundai Elantra driven by Mayonito Revira when an unidentified assailant shot the journalist on the head multiple times, resulting in his death. Revira sustained two gunshot wounds in his right hand and was now recuperating at the Revira Medical Center.

Authorities recovered three fired bullets and one fired cartridge of a pistol.

Denora's body now lies at Villa Funeral Parlor in Barangay Salvacion.

According to Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, nine journalists have been killed from June 30, 2016 to May 1,2018. ROY NARRA
