The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday apologized for the leak on a coach of the Metro Rail Transit-3, prompting passengers to pop open their umbrellas.

The Transportation department said the leak was caused by the railway system’s airconditioning unit (ACU).

“The DOTr MRT-3 sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience brought to passengers by a leak from one MRT-3 ACU yesterday afternoon,” the agency said in a statement.

A viral video, posted on Facebook by Giselle Visitacion Tolosa on Tuesday, showed passengers opening their umbrellas inside the train.

In a text message to The Manila Times, Tolosa said that she noticed the umbrellas before boarding the train on Boni Avenue.

“Obvious na obvious siya kasi papasok pa lang ako, nakapayong na silang lahat,” (It was obvious because when I boarded the train, everyone had their umbrellas up),” she said.

Tolosa said her journey lasted for almost an hour because in every station, MRT personnel had to step in to clean up the train.

“There were crews that kept on sweeping the floor, to lessen the water that poured from the ceiling,” she said.
