The official logo of the Southeast Asian Games, to be hosted by the Philippines next year, has stirred a buzz on social media.
It was first shown on Facebook through the account of Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, who serves as the chief organizer of the SEA Games.
The logo was immediately denounced by netizens.
“Ang pangit ng logo, ang pangit ng mascot, yung presentation din wala man lang impact! (The logo is ugly, the mascot is ugly, the presentation lacks impact),” said Derek Alviola on Facebook. “Halatang minadali. Pinag-isipan ba talaga ito? Kung gaano ka-impressive ang 2018 Asian Games ng Indonesia eh ito ikina-pangit ng presentation ng plans for SEA Games 2019.” (Obviously, it was rushed. Did they event think about this? If Indonesia was able to impress with the hosting of the Asian Games, they showed this to us?)
“Looks to me like they’re condom rings,” said Clinton Balud on Facebook.
“Sorry kay square at triangle, di man lang nabigyan ng slot sa logo,” commented Bryan Delfin. “Better luck next time.”
“Talo ang Olympics, mas madaming rings,” commented Rusty Gomez.
“This is one ugly design,” commented Christer Veloso “Whoever made this should quit his job.”
“So am watching Asian Games and Indonesia is doing well even in branding. And then they show this?” said Carlo Sarion on Facebook.
The parody page, Malacañang Events and Catering Services, used a bunch of rubber bands as the SEA Games logo, lampooning it.
