Former House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. has resigned from the Liberal Party to retire from politics.

He is on his third term as the congressional representative of Quezon City’s Fourth District.

When asked if he had resigned from the party and why, Belmonte replied in a text message, “To retire from politics at age 82.”

“Worked in various capacities for over 36 years. Ok na yun db (That’s enough, isn’t it?) On and off since I was 26 or 27 years old,” he said.
