TAIWAN’s prestigious reproductive medical center, Lee Women’s Hospital, has introduced to Filipinos its latest IVF (in vitro fertilization) technology that is said to increase the pregnancy success rate of infertile patients during a reunion-consultation fair recently held at Makati Shangri-La, in Makati City.
Formally called 3.5 Generation AI (artificial intelligence) IVF Protocol, the latest technology combines the PGS (pre-implantation genetic screening) procedure with a time-lapse machine to assure of an 80 percent chance of successful pregnancy, according to doctor Pin-Yao Lin, the hospital’s director of the Reproductive Medicine Center.
Established in 1986 by renowned fertility doctor Maw-Sheng Lee, the hospital has been receiving notable recognitions such as the largest test-tube baby gathering awarded by the Guinness World Records in 2011. It also takes pride for producing one-third of Taiwan’s IVF babies. Till the end of 2018, Lee Women’s Hospital has helped couples from 36 countries, over 20,000 IVF babies come to this world.
Such is the case of Filipino couple identified as Henry and Aireen Chua, who were infertile for 11 years due to the husband’s medical condition, the couple shared with The Manila Times.
After failing to reach fertility and failed IUI (intrauterine insemination) in well-known hospitals in the Philippines, the couple decided to travel to Taiwan to seek Lee Women’s hospital. The Chuas finally welcomed their baby boy on November 23, 2018.
“Now, there are 400 Filipino couples that come to Lee Women’s Hospital for IVF treatment in a year,” the hospital said in a statement.
In addition to its IVF treatment, the hospital has also been excelling in infertility evaluation with advance medical personnel, technology and equipment such as its sperm diagnostic tool HBA (hyaluronan binding assay) for male infertility, sperm DNA fragmentation, and ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) and detection of spindle birefringence in fertilization for female.
