THE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is now accepting entries to its 2019 Writers’ Prize, which is given biennially to one writer in each of these five categories: poetry, novel, essay or creative non-fiction, short story and drama.
The award — in the gross amount of P250,000 — will assist each winner during the writing of his or her manuscript. The award is good for one year, after which their manuscripts must be submitted to the NCCA.
Applicants must submit an accomplished official entry form (Annex A); curriculum vitae; concept paper of three to five pages discussing the rationale and significance of the writing project; and the project’s initial output, which shall be submitted in four printed copies.
The categories and the expected initial output for each this year are: poetry in Chavacano, 10 poems with one poem per page; novel in Waray, first 50 pages; essay or creative non-fiction in Kinaray-a, three essays with a minimum of 2,000 words each; short story in Cebuano, three stories with a minimum of 2,000 words each; and drama in Ibanag, one act of a full-length work or two one-act plays.
The awardees must complete the project as follows: poetry in Chavacano, at least 30 poems; novel in Waray, minimum of 50,000 words; essay or creative non-fiction in Kinaray-a, at least 12 essays with a minimum of 2,000 words each; short story in Cebuano, at least 12 stories with a minimum of 2,000 words each; and drama in Ibanag, full-length (at least three acts) or five one-act plays.
Deadline for submission of entries is on Aug. 29, 2019 (Thursday).
