AMA Online Education rode on Aaron Black’s second triple double to post a 110-92 bounce-back win over newcomer iWalk in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Combo guard Black finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 14 assists to help the Titans rebound from a 105-106 season-opening loss to Asia’s Lashes in Group A.
It was Black’s second triple-double in as many games, making the son of PBA great and now coach Norman Black just the third player to tally multiple triple-doubles in the developmental league after Jeron Teng and Milke Tolomia.
“I’m really giving him (Black) the confidence to play because I already knew him since he was still in 13-under,” said AMA head coach Mark Herrera.
Herrera commended his wards response to slim defeat in the conference opener.
“Last game we sort of gave up, losing by a point. I told them we have to adjust on defense and we’re a young team so we have a speed advantage,” he said.
Dennis Santos fired a game-high 32 points on top of 10 boards while Vince Tolentino and Luke Parcero chipped in 14 and 12 markers, respectively.
With Black and Santos at the helm, AMA turned a narrow 57-54 lead into a 72-60 buffer late in the third quarter.
The Titans stretched their advantage to 81-67 on Fran Asuncion’s triple early in the final frame but the Chargers narrowed the gap, 83-87, on Wowie Escosio’s basket with 5:47 remaining.
Santos registered nine points and Black five in AMA’s 23-9 final surge that sealed their win.
Ryusei Koga had 18 points, Bernie Bregondo had a 15-marker, 20-rebound double-double while Escosio had 14 points for iWalk
