DOH-9 needs more progestin subdermal implant

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Department of Health (DoH) Region 9 office has long been in dire need of Progestin Subdermal Implant (PSI), as most mothers prefer it over other family planning methods. Dr. Myra Aranan, chief of the City Health Office’s family planning program, said the frequent use of PSI by mothers caused the immediate disappearance of the commodity. She noticed that more than 2,000 mothers have been using the method for the past quarter even as many others kept on inquiring about the plan. According to Aranan, “most mothers find the PSI convenient because they don’t have to go to the health center in their area every month or take the pill everyday.” She said “the PSI is valid for three years and the process is done at the health center under anesthesia where a small cut is made under the arm and the implant is inserted.”
