Ship given by SKorea on its way to Manila

A Philippine Navy ship coming from a recent event in Russia will on Monday escort to the Philippines a vessel donated by South Korea.

Navy spokesman Capt. Jonathan Zata said BRP Davao del Sur arrived at the Jinhae Naval Base on Friday after participating in the Russian Navy Day celebration in Vladivostok, Russia.

He added that BRP Davao del Sur would escort the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39), a corvette donated by South Korea.

The ship was named after Conrado Yap, a Philippine Army officer killed in action at the Battle of Yultong during the Korean War. He was awarded the Medal of Valor for his bravery.

“This undertaking highlights the desire of the [Navy] to leverage its capability of becoming stronger and more credible naval force that the Philippines can be proud of,” Zata said in a statement.
