Special courts for IPR cases pushed

THE Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has asked the Supreme Court for more special commercial courts (SCCs) with the power to issue search warrants in relation to intellectual property rights (IPR) cases that are enforceable nationwide.

In a statement on Monday, IPOPHL said Director General Josephine Santiago made the request during her courtesy visit to Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin.

“We believe the designation of additional SCCs to be located in Metro Visayas, Metro Mindanao and Metro Northern Luzon would further bolster the Philippines’ standing in the areas of rule of law and administration of justice and will be beneficial, as this will serve a greater number of stakeholders,” Santiago said.
