TNT seeks to up its advantage to 2-0 when it battles San Miguel Beer at 7 p.m. tonight in Game 2 of the best-of-seven finals of Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The KaTropa won Game 1, 109-96, last Sunday through Terrence Jones’ prolific output of 41 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks.
“We must sustain the energy level and we have no time to relax. We must lock in on our defense,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena.
Jones managed to roll with the punches thrown by SMB in the finals opener and Ravena cautioned he should expect more in Game 2.
“We have to be ready mentally and physically,” said Ravena, who will be relying anew on Jayson Castro, Don Trollano, Brian Heruela, Roger Pogoy and Troy Rosario against SMB.
SMB coach Leo Austria told his wards that the key is to contain Jones and smother their foes’ outside shooting.
“We have to contain their three point shots and limit their outside shooting, but the problem is they have Jones. We have to regroup [in Game 2],” said Austria after Game 1.
“What we can do to is find somebody who could match Terrence (Jones) defensively.”
Austria tasked Christian Standhardinger, June Mar Fajardo, import Chris McCullough, Kelly Nabong, Arwind Santos and defensive playmaker Chris Ross to contain Jones.
McCullough posted a team-high 33 points and 15 rebounds, while Fajardo contributed 23 points in the finals opener.
