UAAP names Ilagan commish

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has appointed Jensen Ilagan as UAAP Commissioner in time for the upcoming Season 82.

Ilagan, who is the technical director of the Asean Basketball League (ABL) and a FIBA-certified table official, will oversee the men’s, women’s and boys’ divisions as well as the recently added added girls’ division.

“I’m humbled to be the new UAAP commissioner. I will do my best to uphold the league’s integrity through fair competition,” said Ilagan.

The men’s and women’s tournaments will open on September 4 while the juniors class will unfold in the second semester.

The 37-year old Ilagan replaced Junel Baculi. Assisting Ilagan as tournament director is LA Mumar, a former player of Ateneo De Manila University and an ex-athletic director of Lyceum Cavite High School.

“His (Ilagan) experience working in the ABL made us decide to tap him as our commissioner. His youth will bring more technological advancements to our league this season,” said UAAP President Emmanuel Fernandez of Season 82 host Ateneo.

UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag welcomed the development.

“I commend the UAAP’s choice, spearheaded by this season’s host, as we continue to open our doors to candidates other than the traditional names in basketball,” said Saguisag.
