Policeman in road rage known

THE police officer who was caught on camera pointing a gun at a motorist last July 26 was identified by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday.

NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar identified the suspect as Master Sgt. Wilson Aquino of the Tactical Motorcycle Reaction Unit of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 3.

Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar

The NCRPO acted on the complaint filed by the motorist identified only as “Robert,” who personally went to Eleazar’s office.

Robert was driving along Commonwealth Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. on the said day when a white sports utility vehicle (SUV), with plate number ABA 1201, abruptly entered his lane, but he did not give way.

Upon stopping, Aquino stuck his head out of the SUV’s window and pointed his gun at Robert’s direction. Aquino then approached the motorist, brandishing a shotgun and asking for his driver’s license.

Charges of grave threat and oral defamation will be filed against Aquino before the Office of the Quezon City Prosecutor.

Aquino is currently on leave until August 20, but the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the QCPD will take his statement for the investigation and evaluation of the incident.

“We are here to serve and protect, not to intimidate or threaten our citizens. This will serve as a lesson for everybody at nagpapasalamat ako dahil na-expose ang mga pulis na abusadong ito (And I’m thankful that these abusive police officers were exposed),” Eleazar said.
