P20M earmarked to recover Baguio sidewalks

BAGUIO CITY: The local government allocated P20 million from its annual budget next year to recover and put up as many sidewalks in the city to encourage walking among residents and visitors. Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered the City Engineering Office to start working on the recovery of sidewalks in the city to ensure the areas will be safe for walking as sidewalks are “beyond the commerce of man.” City engineer Edgar Victorio Olpindo said the initial wave to recover the major sidewalks in the city was successful considering the least resistance showed by those who have encroached in some portions of the city’s roads that contributed in the worsening traffic congestions, especially in the central business district area.
