2 customs executives ambushed in makati

Two officials of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) were injured in an ambush in Makati City late Friday, August 16, police said.

The Southern Police District (SPD) identified the victims as Maricon Manalo, 56, officer in charge of the Formal Entry Division at the Port of Manila, and Marietta Lasac, 60, an appraiser of the same division.

Initial police investigation showed that the victims were traveling in Manalo’s car when four men blocked them and ordered them to step out of the vehicle. Manalo backed up to escape, prompting the suspects to open fire.

The attack occurred at the corner of Lapu-Lapu Avenue and Victoria Street, Barangay Magallanes at around 8:30 p.m.

Manalo and Lasac were wounded, but they have been declared out of danger. Another passenger was unhurt.

Investigators recovered seven cartridge cases and four bullets at the crime scene, while barangay (village) authorities turned over 18 cartridge cases of different calibers.

The SPD is coordinating with the BoC Intelligence Division in investigating the attack.
