Gabby Concepcion’s supposed MMFF entry suddenly bumped off from official list
One of the most unique Chinese traditions that is generally followed by the Chinoy community is to skip over birthdays that end in nine, and declare themselves the following year older with a grand birthday celebration. Others also choose to have yet a second big party the year after to keep the good vibes going which is exactly what Regal Entertainment matriarch and Ina ng Pelikulang Pilipino Mother Lily Monteverde did on both August 19, 2018 and 2019.
Last year, she had a lavish birthday celebration across all the ballrooms of Crowne Plaza Galleria and even made a grand entrance dancing to “Mama Mia.”
Strong and upbeat as ever, she announced on her “second 80th birthday” on Monday that she will go on producing movies.
“It’s my passion. It is my life,” she told well-wishers.
Indeed, even when other productions folded up when the local movie industry hit a slump, Mother Lily did not lose heart and has kept making movies one after another.
In fact, this year, with the help of her daughter Roselle, Regal is producing 30 movies all together.
Currently showing from Regal’s 2019 titles is “Mina-Anud,” starring Dennis Trillo. Based on actual facts, ñmovie about millions worth of drugs found floating the ocean, tempting the innocent to go into the drug trade.
With its successful screening to close Cinemalaya, Mother decided to make her birthday a double celebration as Mina Anud’s victory party.
As expected, Dennis, Jerald Napoles and the rest of the cast came in full force, along with a star-studded roster of guests lead by one of Mother’s top favorites, Senator Bong Revilla.
Of course, the members of the press who have always been close to Mother Lily were present as Showbuzz spotted our lovely editor Tessa Mauricio-Arriola, her co-members in SPEEd (The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors) led by president and People’s Tonight’s Ian Farinas, and seasoned showbiz columnists like Mario Bautista who also happens to be a former Times editor.
Asked what her wish is, Mother —who not many know plays the piano beautifully said — I want to hold a small concert here at Valencia [her events place in New Manila, QC]. I’ll play the piano and we will invite singers to perform with me. I’ve actually been thinking a lor about it,” she said.
Go for it Mother! It will definitely be a sold out concert give the love everyone has for you in the industry and beyond!

From Gabbi to Gabby. Concepcion this time. The ever sought after leading man was so excited for his Manila Film Festival entry but was suddenly told that the executive committee decided to take his movie out of the list of approved entries for technical reasons.
It’s a sad news for Gabby, of course, but he accepts the committee’s decision. He hasn’t talked to his producer yet or to anyone from the MMFF since learning about what happened.
“I only know as much as you do. Whatever you read on social media, that’s what I know too. This is one thing na hindi natin kontrolado. So let’s just wait kung ano mangyayari. I admit that I was very excited to do the movie,” Gabby stated.
Nevertheless, he hopes the project will turn out well in the end. “I know ‘(K)ampon’ is a very good project. It’s just too bad that nagkaroon ng problema. But I am still open to do it or kahit ibang movie. Basta nandito lang tayo. Pelikula ‘yan, diyan ako nang galing so it will always be a pleasure for me to do.”
On Gabby’s first shooting day for (K)ampon, he got a surprise visit from his leading lady in the movie, Kris brought him a lot of stuff he may need for the shoot.
“I really want to thank Kris for all the gifts she gave me. I was really surprised. Although the staff were saying that she was going to come, hindi naman ako umasa because I was the only one scheduled to shoot that day. So nu’ng dumating siya, I was so happy.”
At the moment, Gabby is also busy with his taping for “Love You 2” with Jennylyn Mercado, Shaira Diaz and Clint Bondad.
“Hindi natin dapat kalimutan manood ng Love You 2 sa bagong time slot. From 9:30 pm, it can can now be seen an hour earlier at 8:30 right after ‘Sahaya’ and before ‘The Better Woman’.”

It was during the pictorial for GMA’s new Action-drama series “Beautiful Justice” that many people noticed just how strong lead stars Gabbi Garcia and Derrick Monasterio’s chemistry is. There’s just something about them when they’re together on screen or in pictures. It’s there but it’s hard to explain and definitely something more than just looking good together.
What’s for sure is that GMA’s definitely hit the right combination.
Even Derrick agreed there’s that something-something when Showbuzz showed him their picture together.
“I’m happy na ganu’n ‘yung nakita nila. Even I was surprised how good our pictures are. Tinawag ko nga si Gabbi to show them and she liked them too.
“This is the first time na nagkasama kami ni Gabbi sa pictorial and even the people around were saying maganda raw, bagay raw kami,” Derrick smiled.
He believes the chemistry comes from the fact that are a fresh pairing and people are seeing something new.
“There is freshness,” Derrick opined. “Bago ‘yung loveteam. Dati, Gabbi and I were not really close and we didn’t know how it is to work with each other. But now, we’ve become close and we always talk. I think it starts with getting to know each other and then becoming comfortable working together.
“All that put together I think is why we have that chemistry.”
Both very excited about Beautiful Justice, they particularly look forward to the hard action scenes that they’ll do.
“We really trained this and learned a lot even when it comes to firing guns,” Gabbi told Showbuzz when she joined the catch up.
Although while Derrick hasn’t started on his action scenes, Gabbi jumped right into hers.
“Ang first week pa lang kasi namin, maaksiyon na eh,” she revealed. “And the shoot is medyo hard because we have new cameras for the series. We’re adjusting then because we are now using this cinema lense to give better quality for the viewers.”
With Derrick and Gabby in Beautiful Justice are Yasmien Kurdi, Bea Binene, Gil Cuerva, Valeen Montenegro, Bing Loyzaga and Victor Neri.
