Go visits Cainta fire victims

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go extended help on Wednesday to 953 individuals who were affected by a fire that broke out on Monday in Barangay San Isidro, Cainta, Rizal.

The victims, who lived in shanties, gathered at the covered court of Greenpark Village and received financial assistance, lunch and grocery packs from Go and his supporters.

The senator also told the victims that he would take care of the uniform and school supplies of the affected children so that they could go back to school immediately.

Representatives from various government agencies, including those from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Housing Authority, and Department of Trade and Industry, were also present to help the victims with their other needs.

When asked about permanent evacuation centers, Go said the construction of such was included in the proposed creation of a Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR).

“That is included in the DDR. The evacuations centers will be built where the evacuees will be comfortable, and today each region has an evacuation center. We could also build evacuation centers in the cities so the evacuees will have nice place to sleep. For me, it is also important that evacuation centers addresses sanitation,” he said in Filipino

Go has filed Senate Bill 205, or the “Disaster Resilience Act of 2019,” which seeks to create an empowered, highly specialized and responsive DDR with clear unity of command to respond to the needs of Filipinos affected by natural calamities and disasters.
