Quezon City joins the fight against HPV and cervical cancer

To protect children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable cervical cancer in the future, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was first launched in Quezon City during the “Back to BakUNA” SBI Program of the Department of Health (DoH) held in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Quezon City’s support in expanding the HPV vaccination coverage of the SBI Program strengthens the combined efforts of key stakeholders across the Philippines in enforcing the DoH Roadmap towards an HPV-free Philippines and cervical cancer elimination by 2040. Photo shows grade 4 students of the Betty Go Belmonte Elementary School in Quezon City forming a cervical cancer awareness ribbon to enforce the importance of promoting HPV awareness and the value of HPV vaccination to shield young women from cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among Filipino women.
