Palace: Up to Congress to ban online gaming

ENFORCING a ban on online gaming is up to Congress, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said.

“Oo, kung i-declare nila illegal na lahat ng gambling, eh di wala nang on-gaming,” he told reporters covering President Rodrigo Duterte’s official visit at the People’s Republic of China.

(Yes, if they declare all gambling illegal, then there will be no online gambling.)

Beijing had called on Manila to ban online gambling involving its citizens in the country.

”Ang narinig ko lang na reaction sa kanya, sabi niya, Eh legal sa atin yan eh”, Panelo said, referring to the President.

(The only reaction I heard from him was, he said, That is legal here.)

Asked what his reading of the President’s remark was, the spokesman said, “Eh di sa ngayon anong magagawa natin kung legal yan. Alangan namang gawin nating illegal, di naman siya pupwedeng mag-declare illegal kasi Kongreso yon.”
