PhilMech eyes to give farm machineries by end-2019

Before the year ends, the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) is targeting to start distributing various farm machineries and equipment to help local rice farmers increase their productivity and competitiveness under a new rice regime. The implementing guidelines for the farm mechanization component under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program (RCEP) was completed on July 16, PHilMech Director Baldwin Jallorina said on the sidelines of the Senate hearing on agriculture and food on Thursday. This means these guidelines are waiting for the signature of Agriculture Secretary William Dar to signal the official rollout of PhilMech’s mechanization program for the rice industry. Of the P10 billion for RCEP, P5 billion will be allocated to PhilMech for the mechanization of rice farms, P3 billion for the provision of high-yielding in-bred rice seeds, P1 billion for credit support, and P1 billion for extension support and education of rice farmers.
