AFTER being grilled by senators, Bureau of Corrections Director General Nicanor Faeldon was invited by the justice panel of the House of Representatives on the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law today, Tuesday.

“We appeal to him to appear in this committee and be able to give his side so that we will not make into hasty conclusion without hearing his side,” Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said in a live television interview over CNN Philippines on Monday, the same day Faeldon appeared before the Senate blue ribbon committee to explain the controversy surrounding the enforcement of the law that grants freedom to convicted prisoners, including those found guilty of heinous crimes, for "good behavior." One of the 11,000 scheduled for release is former Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez who was meted out seven life terms for the rape and murder of University of the Philippines Los Banos student Eileen Sarmenta and the murder of her friend, Allan Gomez, in 1993.
