(Glenn Marie Tamboong) surrendered an M-16 rifle to members of the Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division at Barangay Batongbuhay, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Monday. According to Lt. Col Mario Lito Retirva, commanding officer of the 76th Infantry Battalion, “the female fighter, known in the underground movement as alias Laura, operates in the northern areas of Mindoro Island as lead extortionist.” He said Laura revealed that “the NPA [is] making false promises to cover the rampant corruption within the organization,” which was among the major reasons why she turned her back from the group’s armed struggle.
