THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested seven Chinese for working without proper visas and engaging in illegal sand-dredging activities in Masinloc, Zambales.
The Chinese were arrested on Wednesday inside the vessels they were using in illegal sand dredging.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente on Thursday identified them as Chen Shiniu, Chen Shaoshao, Xu Xiansheng, Jiang Xin, Zhao Yihong, Gong Yaan and Xie Yuhong.
“The subject arrested foreigners violated not only our Immigration Laws, but also the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and Executive Order 292,” Morente said.
“They are seriously threatening national security and interest by stealing our minerals and resources,” he added.
When questioned, the arrested foreigners presented their passports with tourist visas. They were found to be overstaying and working without proper visas or permits.
Immediately after their arrest, the subjects were brought to the BI Main Office in Manila for further verification and proper inquest proceedings.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the operation stemmed from an intelligence information and constant coordination with elements from Philippine National Police-Region 3.
