The shutdown of MRT3 on Friday, 6 September 2019, drove home the point that EDSA needs more than one mass transit system.  MRT3 currently moves around 300,000 passengers daily. The MRT3 shutdown meant that hundreds of thousands of commuters had to find alternative means of getting to work or school.  As a result, all other modes of public transport were much more crowded than usual. Some car owners resorted to using their cars instead of public transport. Even more traffic congestion ensued.  In the end, millions of Filipinos suffered.
