NEW YORK: The New York Giants axed Eli Manning as starting quarterback on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), the two-time Super Bowl winner paying the price for the franchise’s sluggish start to the season.

The 38-year-old Manning, who led the Giants to memorable Super Bowl wins over the New England Patriots in 2008 and 2012, will be replaced by rookie Daniel Jones, coach Pat Shurmur said in a statement.
