AT least five of the country’s big steel companies are now the subject of an ongoing post-audit by the Bureau of Customs (BoC) to determine if they had paid proper duties and taxes to the government and, more importantly, if specifications of their steel importations had met safety standards.

Customs Assistant Commissioner Philip Vincent Maronilla on Friday disclosed that one of the firms is being audited on billet importations.
