Marinerong Pilipino a win away from first PBA D-League crown

MARINERONG Pilipino moved to within a win away from a maiden championship after sinking BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare College, 69-59, in Game One of the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League (PBA D-League) Foundation Cup finals on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Skippers built a massive 19-point lead early in the game then did enough to prevent a Saints’ comeback to draw first blood in the best-of-three finale.

Adven Diputado led Marinero’s balanced attack with 12 points highlighted by two triples.

All but one of the other 11 Skippers deployed by coach Yong Garcia chipped in at least three points in the crucial win. JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA
