Deaths in India’s rainfall rise to 42

NEW DELHI: As many as 42 people have died since last week in rain-related incidents in India’s eastern state of Bihar, media reports said.

Over 2 million people are reeling under the impact of flood in 15 districts, including Katihar, Begusarai, Khagaria and Bhagalpur, according to state-run broadcaster All India Radio.

It is reported that Patna, the capital of state Bihar, has been affected the most due to the worst-ever waterlogging in the city. The other districts affected by the heavy rainfall are Bhojpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Vaishali and Darbhanga.

The state government has intensified rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Bihar on Thursday.
