Customs surpasses collection target in Sept

THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) surpassed its collection target for September by 13 percent despite the below par performance of some so-called “billionaire ports”.

Based on the preliminary figures released by the BoC’s Statistical Analysis Division (SAD), the BoC’s 17 collection districts generated P59.209 billion last month compared to the P52.42 billion for the same period in 2018.

According to SAD, growth in revenue collection last month was because of the increase in the volume of importation, higher collection as a result of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, Rice Tariffication Law and the National Food Authority tax expenditure collection.

Records showed that of the 17 customs collection districts across the country, only nine exceeded their targets in September.

Among the non-performing big ports are the Port of Manila, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Port of Cebu, Port of Batangas, Manila International Container Port (MICP) and Port of Clark. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
