TOKYO: Japan’s consumer prices slid further while unemployment fell for the first time in six months in July, according to government data Friday that gave a mixed view of a fragile recovery.

Japan’s core consumer price index fell 1.1 percent in July from a year earlier, data showed, marking the 17th straight month of decline and a continued deflationary spiral.
