SUVA, Fiji: Fijians are planning peaceful protests against this week’s coup and could force military commander Voreqe Baini-marama to back down within weeks, deposed Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said Friday. His prediction came amid anger over the coup from an influential council of chiefs and as the regime conceded that plans to “clean-up” corrupt government and reinstall the temporarily ousted president will take longer than expected. --AFP
