MAYOR Josefina Belmonte declared on Wednesday that four out of five villages with confirmed cases of the African swine fever (ASF) in Quezon City are free of the virus.
Belmonte said the last batch of hogs suspected to be carrying the virus in Tatalon, Tandang Sora, Pasong Tamo and Bagong Silang had been culled.
The mayor noted that authorities had to cull 2,000 hogs in Barangay Payatas.
She said hog raisers in the four villages received P5,000 for each pig culled.
The local government allotted P3,000 for each pig as financial aid to hog raisers.
Belmonte said the city government has yet to receive the cash support from the Department of Agriculture.
