DoJ orders NBI to probe Masbate vice mayor’s slay

The Department of Justice (DoJ) over the weekend ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to unmask the perpetrators of the murder of Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson 3rd.

Under Department Order 564, Secretary Menardo Guevarra wants to conduct a deeper investigation, although some suspects have been identified by the Manila Police District.

“….the NBI, through Dante A. Gierran, is hereby directed and granted authority to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the killing of Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson 3rd of Batuan, Masbate on [October 9, 2019] in Sampaloc, Manila,” the document said.

Gierran is the director of the NBI.

Guevarra ordered Gierran to submit reports on the progress of the subject investigation and case build-up directly to the Office of the Justice Secretary.

Last October 9, Yuson was shot dead in Sampaloc, Manila, while his companions Wilfredo Pineda, 44, and Alberto Alforte, 23, were injured by stray bullets.

Four suspects were arrested, but were later ordered released by the Manila fiscal.

The Yuson family suspected politics as the main culprit, putting the blame on the family of Sandra Cam, currently a board member of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Yuson defeated Marco Cam, son of the PCSO official, in the May 2019 midterm elections.
