I’m certainly no believer in communism as a workable system, and neither am I a big fan of the so-called leftist organizations. However, I believe that there is space for everyone in the marketplace of ideas, and only time will tell which one of us is right.

So I found your columnist Marit Remonde’s January 5 article “No better than the NPA” rather off. Statements such as “Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocam-po, Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza and Karapatan tried in vain to make her [Rose Ann Gumanoy] return to the revolutionary fold” and “The role of organizations such as Bayan Muna and Karapatan is to deceive and confuse the public, killing the truth if they have to,” give the appearance of fact, when they are clearly just Remonde’s opinion. I think she should take care to distinguish between the two. Furthermore, statements such as “A vote for a candidate who endorses the NPA’s legal fronts is a vote for the NPA,” sound eerily threatening and McCarthyist.
