Angkas open to competition, exec says

Angkas is not threatened by the possible entry of Indonesia’s ride-hailing app GoJek in the Philippine market, according to an official of the motorbike-hailing company. On the sidelines of “The Final Pitch: Real Estate and Livable Cities” press conference in Makati City, Angkas regulatory and public affairs head George Royeca said his company was open to competition, saying it was “a good thing,” as this would be “pro-commuters.” His comments came after GoJek revealed in December its plan to expand its presence in Asia, with the Philippines as one of the countries it was looking at to offer transportation services. But the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board rejected the Indonesian firm’s application to enter the local market earlier this year, saying its local subsidiary failed to meet the 60-percent Filipino ownership requirement.
