MediaHouse.PH, a division of project management firm Magistan Media, and international satellite operator SES, are aiming to redefine the country’s television viewing experience with the launch of ClubTV, a thematically-focused satellite TV platform.
Available starting December 1 on satellite TV providers Cignal and Global Satellite (GSAT), ClubTV offers six themed channels — GINX Esports TV, Motorvision TV, Pet & Pal, Luxe & Life Health & Wellness, and My Cinema Europe.
“With this new platform, we are delivering new content cost-effectively, and in excellent technical quality to millions of households,” said Ralph Siebenaler, Magistan Media and Mediahouse.PH chief executive, in a statement. “This platform is also an excellent opportunity for global content owners or TV channels to enter the Philippine market or extend their reach.”
Despite the changing viewing habits prompted by technology, TV remains to be the most popular way to consume content in the Philippines, as per Soo Yew Weng, SES Video vice president for Sales & Market Development in Asia Pacific, during ClubTV’s launch on Thursday.
93 percent of Filipino viewers still prefer watching on their televisions over other medium, with daily screen time averaging from 3.4 to 3.7 hours. Soo said it would only continue to rise as they expect TV penetration to hit 78 percent or 20.7 million by 2024 from the current 18.7 million.
Further, traditional TV currently gets about $2 billion on video advertisements, the highest among Asia-Pacific countries. By 2023, the number is expected to grow at least 3.8 times or about $478 million more.
ClubTV would be exclusive to Cignal and GSAT subscribers for now, but it eyes to have all leading satellite pay-TV operators carry it in the future.
Siebenaler also added that they plan to double the number of channel offerings should the audience receive the introductory channels well.
